Why aren't pets listed by breed on Perfect Pet Finder?

Perfect Pet Finder does not list pets by breed in order to give mixed breed (mutts, crosses etc) pets a greater chance for adoption. Many people operate under the false assumption that in order to get certain traits in a pet, that you have to adopt a particular breed. This is not necessarily true. Each animal is different, and when people rely on commonly held perceptions about a particular breed, it can lead to disappointment when the new guardian discovers that their pet doesn't possess these characteristics.

The Perfect Pet Finder 'Pet Matchmaker System' takes the guesswork out of pet adoption. By allowing prospective pet guardians to search for pets based on important characteristics (e.g. good with children), Perfect Pet Finder helps people to find the pet that is most suitable to their lifestyle. This could be a purebred pet, or it could be a mixed breed. As the potential new guardian for this pet, this should not matter. What is important is finding a pet that suits your lifestyle and your family.

Many of the mixed breed pets on Perfect Pet Finder come from reputable animal shelters and private rescue homes. The unfortunate reality is that some of these pets face an uncertain future if they are not adopted. So by adopting a pet from an animal shelter or rescue home you are doing a great deed. Mixed breed animals often make great family pets too, as they are less prone to genetic conditions that can lead to expensive vet bills.

Desexing of cats and dogs is mandatory prior to listing on Perfect Pet Finder, so why can someone select 'no' or 'unsure' to this question?

In accordance with Perfect Pet Finder's Terms and Conditions all dogs and cats must be desexed prior to listing on the website. The use of a drop-down box with multiple response options has been chosen for several reasons. Firstly, it enables Pefect Pet Finder to enforce its Terms and Conditions. If someone has listed a pet as desexed, and the new guardian discovers the pet is undesexed, then the archived listing could be used to support a complaint to the relevant State or Territory's Fair Trading Office and/or the ACCC for misleading and deceptive conduct. In addition, from an operational perspective, the use of a drop down box facilitates monitoring and enables Perfect Pet Finder to take the appropriate corrective action.

Can animal shelters and rescue homes include their logo within a listing?

Yes. Providing you are the owner of the trademark, you are welcome to upload your organisation's logo.

How do I mark my pet as adopted?

Is this site secure?

Yes. Perfect Pet Finder maintains a Secure Socket Layer ('SSL') Certificate with 128 bit encryption.

How do I save ads to my favourites?

A listing on Perfect Pet Finder does not comply with your terms and conditions, what should I do?

Thank you for your help in monitoring compliance with our Terms and Conditions. Whilst we try to preview each new listing, a few inevitably get through. To report a listing, simply click the “report listing” link in the “Other Actions” box on the relevant listing. Please note, however, that the Perfect Pet Finder team will in exceptional circumstances issue specific animal shelters or private rescue homes a limited variation (or an exemption) to our Terms and Conditions. For more information about this process, and to see whether a particular animal shelter or rescue home has been issued with such a variation, click here.

What if I can't find what I am looking for? Search tips.

As most of the pets available on Perfect Pet Finder come from animal shelters or rescue homes, it is not always possible to complete all the search criteria. Therefore, if you are searching Perfect Pet Finder and receiving only a few pets this does not mean there isn't a match for you. It just means that you need to expand your search criteria. Here are a few tips to help you find your perfect pet.

(1) Start with only the most important criteria/ characteristic to you. If you receive too many search results, add your next criteria.

(2) If you are using the 'proximity search by post code':

- either increase the number of kilometers you have entered, or

- select your State in the 'location' dropdown boxes.

(3) If more than one of the options apply in any given search criteria, then leave this blank and this will return all options. Alternatively, you can conduct two different searches.

(4) You can view every listing in a category or sub-category by selecting it in the 'All Categories' dropdown box, in the blue header row at the top of the page.

Finally, if you are a registered user (click here for more information) you can set up an auto-alert within the "My Account" page. Perfect Pet Finder will then notify you when a listing that satisfies your search criteria is placed.

A listing doesn't have phone number. How do I contact them?

You can contact the person or organisation by clicking the "contact member" button in the "Member Info" box, to the left of the listing. The member will then be notified by email of your question(s) and they can either reply by email or log in to their account and reply through our onsite messaging system. The seller can choose to keep their email address anonymous.
